“Use this itinerary” copies all 12 stops into a trip of your own, on your dates.

This is a layover turned into two nights on purpose. Qatar Airways' stopover programme is the mechanism: on a confirmed Qatar Airways or code-share ticket with a transit of 12 hours or more, Discover Qatar sells up to four nights in Doha hotels from about USD 14 per person per night for four-star, USD 24 for five-star — you book the flight first, then add the hotel against your booking reference. That is why the itinerary is two days and not one, and it is also why it never strays far from the Red Line back to Hamad International. Check your entry rules again the week you fly, because they move. Over 100 nationalities enter visa-free or get a visa on arrival at no cost, others pay QAR 100 through the Hayya portal, and everyone is expected to show a confirmed hotel booking on arrival — and in March 2026 visa on arrival was suspended for Pakistani passport holders outright, with airlines refusing boarding without pre-approved Hayya. Nothing here is stable enough to plan on from memory. The three museums this trip is built on each close on a different day, which is the real scheduling problem in Doha: the Museum of Islamic Art closes Wednesdays, the National Museum of Qatar closes Tuesdays, and Msheireb Museums close Sundays. Add Friday, when the museums do not open until 13:30 or 15:00 and the metro itself does not run until 14:00, and only two consecutive pairs survive: Saturday–Sunday and Tuesday–Wednesday. Run it Tuesday–Wednesday, which is what this itinerary is written for — it clears all three museums and the day-1 lunch, because Bandar Aden's listing reports it closed at weekends. Saturday–Sunday works for the museums alone; take it only if you swap that lunch. Everything else on the calendar loses a museum or half a day.

Arrive Hamad International, Red Line to Msheireb
travel · 75 min · QAR 6
Sort the visa before you fly, not at the desk. More than 100 nationalities get visa-free entry or a free visa on arrival; the rest apply through the Hayya portal for QAR 100, and Indian, Pakistani, Thai and Iranian passport holders have at times been required to book a Discover Qatar hotel before travelling. Qatar Tourism now calls visa on arrival 'visa-free entry' — same procedure, new wording — and in March 2026 it was suspended for Pakistani passports entirely. Have a confirmed hotel booking on your phone either way; immigration asks. The metro is the way in and it is almost free. Hamad International Airport T1 sits on the Red Line, 16 minutes from Msheireb, the interchange where all three lines meet and the best base for these two days. Standard class is QAR 2 a journey capped at QAR 6 for the day; Gold Club is QAR 10 a journey and unnecessary. Trains run 05:30–00:00 Saturday to Wednesday, to 01:00 on Thursday, and only from 14:00 on Friday — the single most disruptive fact about the Doha week, and one of the reasons this itinerary starts on a Tuesday. Left luggage exists at HIA if you are doing this with no hotel at all.

Museum of Islamic Art
sight · 150 min · QAR 50
Museum of Islamic Art, Corniche, Doha
QAR 50 for non-resident adults; free for Qatar and GCC residents and for under-16s — which is why several listings, including Tripadvisor's own page, flatly say entry is free. It is not, for you. Open 09:00–19:00 Saturday to Tuesday, 09:00–21:00 Thursday, 13:30–19:00 Friday, and closed Wednesdays. Rated 4.6 across roughly 6,600 Tripadvisor reviews and ranked #5 of 188 things to do in Doha; it is the best museum on the Arabian Peninsula and not a close contest. I. M. Pei came out of retirement at 91 to build it, spent months reading the Qur'an and touring Islamic architecture, and took the ablution fountain of the Ibn Tulun mosque in Cairo as his model — the atrium is the result. Inside: 1,400 years and three continents over four floors and eighteen galleries, metalwork, carpets, illuminated manuscripts, and enough space around each object to actually look at it. Two and a half hours is the honest minimum. The bay-facing windows on the top floor frame the West Bay skyline, which is the single best free view in the city.

Bandar Aden Restaurant

Bandar Aden Restaurant, Souq Waqif, Doha
A fifteen-minute walk along the Corniche from the museum, on the seaward edge of Souq Waqif — Yemeni, rated 4.4 across 244 Tripadvisor reviews and ranked around #206 of 2,082 restaurants in Doha, and the correct answer to lunch in this city. Order the lamb haneeth or the mandi: slow-roasted meat on a mound of spiced rice, brought to a floor-seated table on a communal tray, for roughly QAR 45 a head. Portions are enormous and everyone tells you so in the reviews. It is a plain room with plastic-covered majlis seating rather than a designed one, and licence-free like the whole souq. Check the day before you count on it. Its Tripadvisor listing — unclaimed, so treat it as a lead rather than gospel — reports Monday to Thursday 08:00–23:00, Friday from 12:30, and closed Saturday and Sunday, which is the second reason this itinerary runs Tuesday–Wednesday rather than over a weekend. If it is shut, Shay Al Shomous (day 2's lunch, four minutes away) and the souq's terrace grills both work; what you should not do is eat at one of the Corniche-facing terraces charging three times as much for the view you already had from the museum.

Msheireb Museums

Msheireb Museums, Msheireb Downtown Doha
Free, four restored heritage houses, and the best-spent afternoon in Doha — rated 4.7 across 188 Tripadvisor reviews, #13 of 188 things to do, and almost never crowded. Ten minutes' walk west of Souq Waqif, air-conditioned throughout, which is what makes it the right thing to do between two and five in a Gulf summer. Hours are 09:00–17:00 Saturday to Thursday, 15:00–21:00 Friday, and closed Sunday; a 14:45 arrival gives you the full run to a hard 17:00 close, so do not drift here at four. Bin Jelmood House is the reason to come: a national museum that devotes an entire building to the Indian Ocean slave trade and Qatar's own part in it, ending on modern forced labour — an unusually unflinching thing for a Gulf state to fund and display. Company House covers the oil workers, Mohammed Bin Jassim House the neighbourhood's demolition and rebuilding, Radwani House domestic life before oil.

Souq Waqif
sight · 105 min · free
Souq Waqif, Al Souq, Doha
Free, open at all hours, rated 4.5 across 9,300+ Tripadvisor reviews and a Travellers' Choice winner for 2026 — but it is an evening place and going at 15:00 is the standard mistake: many stalls shut for an afternoon break and the alleys are unbearable in summer daylight. Come at dusk, when the lamps go on and the whole souq fills. The market is a 2006 reconstruction on the site of the real one, done in mud render and exposed timber, which sounds like a theme park and is not — Qataris use it. Walk the spice and textile lanes, then the Falcon Souq, where birds worth more than cars sit hooded on perches and the falcon hospital next door will let you look in; it is free and it is the strangest twenty minutes in the Gulf. The gold souq and the animal market are on the far side. Haggling is expected everywhere except the food stalls.

Parisa, Souq Waqif, Al Souq, Doha
Rated 4.6 across roughly 750 Tripadvisor reviews, #176 of 1,592 restaurants in Doha, and the one splurge in these two days at about QAR 150 a head. Persian food — chelo kabab, ghormeh sabzi, saffron rice with barberries — served in a room lined with hand-cut mirror mosaic that took three and a half years to assemble from pieces brought out of Iran, so the whole restaurant flickers like the inside of a lantern. Book, especially Thursday to Saturday evenings, and note that it serves in two sittings — roughly 13:00–16:00 and 18:00–22:30 — so an early evening arrival finds the doors shut and a 21:30 one is cutting it fine. Expect service to be unhurried; the two complaints that recur in reviews are price and pace, and both are true. If QAR 150 is not the right call, the souq's terrace restaurants along the main alley do mezze and grills for half that, and Shay Al Shomous — day 2's lunch — is a fraction again.

09:00
Check out, bags to storage, Gold Line to National Museum
travel · 30 min · QAR 6
Leave the bags at the hotel — nothing today comes back this way, and the day ends at the airport. From Msheireb the Gold Line runs two stops east to National Museum station, which surfaces at the museum's own door; it is under ten minutes and the QAR 6 daily cap covers today's metro entirely, including the run out to Katara and back to Hamad International tonight. If your flight is a late one, note that the Red Line's last trains are around midnight Saturday to Wednesday and 01:00 on Thursday, so a 02:00 departure needs a taxi or Karwa at the end of the evening rather than a train.

National Museum of Qatar, Museum Park Street, Doha
QAR 50 for non-resident adults, QAR 25 for non-resident students, free for under-16s and for Qatar residents. Open 09:00–19:00 Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, 09:00–21:00 Thursday, 13:30–19:00 Friday, closed Tuesdays, with last entry 45 minutes before closing. Rated 4.7 across roughly 900 Tripadvisor reviews. Jean Nouvel built it as a desert rose — 539 interlocking discs, no two the same, wrapped around the restored palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, which is still standing in the courtyard at the centre of it. The galleries are a 1.5 km one-way spiral of wraparound film, sound and objects rather than cases and captions; go early, because the immersive rooms lose their effect once they are full. Some galleries have been closed in rotation for enhancement, so accept that you may not see all eleven. Two and a half hours; the building alone is worth an hour of it.

Shay Al Shomous
food · 75 min · QAR 45
Shay Al Shomous, Al Jasra Street, Souq Waqif, Doha
Back two metro stops and into a corner of Souq Waqif for the one genuinely Qatari meal on this itinerary — a small tea house run by Shams Al Qassabi, the first Qatari woman to hold a licence in the souq, and still run by her in person. Balaleet (sweet vermicelli under an omelette), baid o tomate, aseeda, machboos, honey-and-cheese regag bread, karak by the glass, for about QAR 45. It serves this all day, so a 12:45 'breakfast' is normal. Two practical warnings. Its Tripadvisor presence is split across duplicate listings with wildly different scores — the honest aggregate is around 4.2 across some 900 reviews — and service can be slow when a tour group lands. Cash is easiest. If it is shut or overrun, Bandar Aden from day 1 is four minutes away.
NOTE · field note · HOURS: the tea house now serves in two sittings - 07:30-13:00 and 18:30-22:00 Saturday to Thursday, and Friday 07:30-11:00 only. — checked 2026-08-15

Heat block — collect yourself before the last stretch
other · 150 min · free
Scheduled, not padding. Doha in June to September runs 41–45°C with Gulf humidity behind it, and 14:00 to 16:30 is the part of the day no itinerary should spend outdoors. Take it in the hotel lobby if they will hold your bags there, or in the air conditioning of Msheireb Downtown's arcades, or at the Ned or one of the Souq Waqif hotel courtyards over a karak. From November to March, delete this block and spend it on the Corniche instead — the seven-kilometre bay walk from the museum round to the dhow harbour is the thing this itinerary cannot recommend in summer and would put first in winter.
17:00
Katara Cultural Village
sight · 105 min · free
Katara Cultural Village, Doha
Free, and a straight run north on the Red Line to Katara station, Exit 2 — about 20 minutes from downtown and, crucially, back towards the airport line rather than away from it. Rated 4.3 across some 2,770 Tripadvisor reviews: a purpose-built cultural district rather than an old quarter, so judge it as architecture and programming, not heritage. The Greek-styled amphitheatre over the water, the blue-tiled Katara Mosque, the gold-mosaic Golden Masjid, the pigeon towers and a rotating set of free galleries. Come at 17:00 and not before — this is an outdoor place, and the hour before sunset is when it becomes pleasant and when the light on the amphitheatre is worth the trip. If the heat has beaten you, Place Vendôme mall one stop further north is fully air-conditioned and equally on the way.
19:15
Collect bags and Red Line to Hamad International
travel · 90 min · free
Katara back to Msheireb for the bags, then Red Line to Hamad International Airport T1 — about 50 minutes end to end, all inside today's QAR 6 cap. Dinner is deliberately not scheduled, because Hamad International is one of the few airports on earth where eating in the terminal is a plan rather than a defeat: the landside and airside halls run from a Qatari-food court to full-service restaurants, and you will have three hours in there anyway. Qatar Airways passengers should check whether their fare includes lounge access before paying for a meal. Allow three hours before a long-haul departure — HIA is efficient but it is enormous, and the walk to the C and D gates is long.

Anything with a kitchen or a ticket gate is verified individually: the official site where one exists, plus recent traveler reviews. Public squares, parks and viewpoints get an existence check. A venue we can’t confirm is flagged below rather than quietly kept, and the whole itinerary is re-checked on a cadence — past 12 months without one, the checked claim is dropped and the date above stops being a promise.
