Three days that treat Marrakech as two cities that happen to share a taxi rank. Days 1 and 2 stay inside the walls — the Saadian and Alaouite monuments in the southern medina, then the madrasa, the souks and a hammam in the north — and day 3 crosses into Guéliz for the Jardin Majorelle, the Yves Saint Laurent museum and a lunch that funds a women's training programme. The one thing to book before you fly is Jardin Majorelle: tickets are sold online only, on timed slots, through tickets.jardinmajorelle.com and nowhere else — every other site here you can walk up to. Two weekdays quietly reshape this trip, so check what day you land on: Wednesday closes both the Yves Saint Laurent museum and Le Foundouk, and Tuesday closes Al Fassia and Dar El Bacha. Every stop here says which day it shuts and what to do instead. Prices are 2026 foreign-visitor rates in dirhams, checked 25 July 2026, and they are the part of this plan most likely to drift — Moroccan monument fees have moved twice since 2024, so treat them as a band. Come in spring or autumn: July and August routinely pass 40 °C and the medina has no shade to spare. And plan around Ramadan if it falls in your window, when almost every site switches to shortened hours.

Day 1 — The southern medina — palaces, tombs, and the square at duskThe southern medina — palaces, tombs, and the square at dusk

09:00
Bahia Palace
sight · 75 min · MAD 70
Bahia Palace, Avenue Imam El Ghazali
Start with the easiest thing to love in Marrakech: a 19th-century grand vizier's palace of painted cedar ceilings, zellij courtyards and cool riad gardens. Open daily 08:00–17:00, around 70 MAD for foreign visitors. Come at opening — by 11:00 the small rooms are shoulder to shoulder with tour groups, and the best of the building is the light in the empty courtyards.
NOTE · field note · PRICE AND HOURS: foreign-visitor admission is now 100 MAD, not the "around 70 MAD" the stop quotes — Morocco has levelled its Marrakech monuments at 100 MAD each (children 7–13 pay 30, under-7s free). — checked 2026-08-15

10:45
El Badi Palace
sight · 60 min · MAD 100
El Badi Palace, Ksibat Nhas
A ten-minute walk south and the exact opposite: a ruined 16th-century Saadian palace stripped to its walls by a later sultan, now a vast sunken orange grove patrolled by storks nesting on the ramparts. Daily 09:00–17:00, about 100 MAD. Climb the terrace for the view over the Kasbah rooftops to the Atlas.
MAD 100
12:00
Saadian Tombs
sight · 30 min · MAD 100
Saadian Tombs, Rue de la Kasbah
Five minutes further: the Hall of Twelve Columns, a Saadian mausoleum sealed up for three centuries and only rediscovered in 1917. Daily 09:00–17:00, about 100 MAD. Manage your expectations — this is the weakest value of the three monuments this morning and its 3.8 Google average says so: the site is tiny, the main chamber is viewed from a roped doorway one group at a time, and the queue outside routinely runs longer than the twenty minutes you spend inside. Go early or go straight after the midday call to prayer; if the line is out past the gate, skip it and give the time back to El Badi next door, which costs the same and is ten times the space.
NOTE · field note · RATING: still inside the validator's 3.5–4.0 warning band at 3.9 on Google across roughly 14,800 reviews — up a tenth on the 3.8 the stop reports, but not out of the band, so the warning stands and the stop's own "manag… — checked 2026-08-15

13:00
Café Clock
food · 75 min · MAD 120
Café Clock, Derb Chtouka, Kasbah
A cross-cultural café two minutes from the tombs with a rooftop terrace, and the rare medina lunch that is neither a tourist-menu tagine nor a gamble. The camel burger is the house joke and genuinely good; there are proper vegetarian plates too. Evenings here run storytelling and live gnawa sessions if you want to come back.
MAD 120
14:45
Koutoubia Mosque and gardens
sight · 45 min · free · Koutoubia Mosque, Avenue Mohammed V
Koutoubia Mosque, Avenue Mohammed V
The 12th-century minaret that every other tower in the Maghreb copies, and the fixed point you will navigate by all week. Non-Muslims cannot enter the mosque — the visit is the exterior and the rose gardens behind it, which are free, shaded and the best place in the centre to sit down. Fifteen minutes' walk from the Kasbah.
17:00
Jemaa el-Fna
sight · 90 min · MAD 30
Jemaa el-Fna
Arrive at dusk, which is when the square turns over from juice carts to smoke and drummers. Watch it from a rooftop terrace first — a mint tea at Café de France or Le Grand Balcon costs about 30 MAD and buys you the whole panorama in peace. Then walk it. Practical, not paranoid: the henna women and the monkey handlers charge aggressively after the fact, so decline before anything touches you; nothing here is free; and anyone who volunteers to lead you somewhere expects paying. Agree the price of a food-stall plate before it is put down.

Nomad, 1 Derb Aarjane, Rahba Lakdima
Ten minutes north of the square on Place des Épices: modern Moroccan on four levels of rooftop, open daily 12:00–22:30. Book, and book for the top terrace — that is what you are actually coming for. Straight about it: at 4.0 on Google over 7,000 reviews the cooking divides people and the prices are medina-high, so treat it as a very good table above the spice square rather than the best meal of the trip. Tomorrow's dinner at Le Foundouk is the food night.

Day 2 — The northern medina — madrasa, souks, a garden, and a scrubThe northern medina — madrasa, souks, a garden, and a scrub

09:00
Medersa Ben Youssef
sight · 75 min · MAD 50
Medersa Ben Youssef, Rue Assouel
The 16th-century Quranic college, reopened in 2022 after a four-year restoration and the most beautiful interior in Marrakech: a marble courtyard, a cedar-and-stucco prayer hall, and 130 student cells upstairs you can walk into. Daily 09:00–19:00 (to 16:30 during Ramadan), 50 MAD for foreign visitors. First hour of the day is when the courtyard is photographable and quiet.
MAD 50
10:30
Maison de la Photographie
sight · 60 min · MAD 50
Maison de la Photographie, 46 Rue Bin Lafnadek
Three minutes' walk from the madrasa: a private collection of about 10,000 Moroccan photographs from 1870 to 1960, hung in a restored riad. Daily 09:30–19:00, 50 MAD. The reason to come is as much the third-floor terrace café — one of the best free-ish rooftop views over the medina to the Atlas, and a good place to plan the souk run below.
MAD 50
12:00
Souk Semmarine and Rahba Kedima
sight · 75 min · free
Souk Semmarine
Walk the souks south down Souk Semmarine towards the square, detouring into Rahba Kedima — the old spice and apothecary market — and the dyers' lane at Souk Sebbaghine. Haggling is expected and starts at roughly a third of the asking price; walking away is a normal move, not an insult. You will get lost, which is fine: every alley eventually spits you out at either the Koutoubia or Jemaa el-Fna, and phone maps work better here than their reputation suggests.
13:30
Café des Épices
food · 75 min · MAD 120
Café des Épices, 75 Rahba Lakdima
The refuge on the spice square — salads, tagines and sandwiches at fair prices, with rooftop tables over the basket sellers. Open from 09:00 through to 23:00 in continuous service, so it also works as a mid-afternoon collapse if the souks run long. Cash is easiest.
MAD 120
15:15
Le Jardin Secret
sight · 75 min · MAD 120
Le Jardin Secret, 121 Rue Mouassine
A restored 19th-century palace garden hidden behind a plain door on Rue Mouassine — Islamic quadrant garden, exotic garden, and a working khettara irrigation system explained properly. Daily 09:30–18:30, 80 MAD, plus 40 MAD for the tower, which is worth it for a medina view without a café minimum. The quietest 75 minutes of the trip.
NOTE · field note · PRICE: the garden's own visitor-information page now lists full-price entry at 100 MAD, not the 80 MAD the stop states; the 40 MAD tower supplement is unchanged, so the real total is 140 MAD against the stop's 120. — checked 2026-08-15
MAD 120
17:00
Hammam de la Rosebook ahead
sight · 90 min · MAD 450book ahead
Hammam de la Rose, 130 Dar El Bacha
A mid-range hammam five minutes from Le Jardin Secret: steam room, black-soap scrub, rhassoul clay, optional massage — reckon 400–600 MAD depending on the package. Book a day ahead by phone or through your riad; walk-ins are hit and miss. Expect to be scrubbed harder than feels polite, bring nothing valuable, and know that most Moroccan hammams are single-sex by session. Neighbourhood note: Dar El Bacha's Musée des Confluences is on the same street and worth 60 MAD if you have an hour spare — closed Tuesdays, and the Bacha Coffee room inside is a destination in its own right.

Le Foundouk, 55 Souk Hal Fassi, Kaat Benahid
Dinner in a restored merchants' inn near the madrasa — three storeys around a lantern-lit courtyard, French-Moroccan cooking, and a rooftop for after. Closed Wednesdays; open 19:00 to midnight otherwise, and reservations are effectively required. The approach is through unlit alleys: ask them to send someone to meet you at the Souk Hal Fassi entrance, which is normal practice here rather than an imposition.

How we check

Anything with a kitchen or a ticket gate is verified individually: the official site where one exists, plus recent traveler reviews. Public squares, parks and viewpoints get an existence check. A venue we can’t confirm is flagged below rather than quietly kept, and the whole itinerary is re-checked on a cadence — past 12 months without one, the checked claim is dropped and the date above stops being a promise.
