This is southern Peru climbed in the order your body wants it: two days at sea level in Lima, two at 2,335 m in Arequipa, a night at 3,635 m in the Colca valley, then Puno at 3,830 m on the shore of Lake Titicaca, so no night is spent higher than the one before it. The route's story runs from the Lima culture's adobe pyramid and the Moche ceramics in the Larco collection, through Arequipa's white-stone convent and the Inca child found on Ampato's summit, to the Colla burial towers at Sillustani, with ceviche, picanteria lunches and Titicaca trout along the way. The two-day Colca tour is booked as one shared trip that crosses the 4,910 m Patapampa pass, puts you on the Cruz del Condor rim for the morning flight window, and drops you in Puno, and the flights in and out bracket the whole climb. Soles throughout, with every entry fee at the rate a foreign visitor actually pays, and the Titicaca day stays entirely on the Peruvian shore.

09:30
Huaca Pucllana
sight · 75 min · PEN 15
Huaca Pucllana, Calle General Borgoño, Miraflores
Start at sea level, where the story of this route begins: a stepped adobe pyramid built by the Lima culture between roughly 200 and 700 AD, standing in the middle of Miraflores apartment blocks. Entry is by guided visit only, included in the 15-sol day ticket, and tours leave through the morning in Spanish and English. Open 09:00 to 17:00 Wednesday to Monday, closed on Tuesdays. If your day 1 falls on a Tuesday, swap days 1 and 2; nothing on day 2 closes that day. It also runs night visits Wednesday to Sunday from 18:45 at 17 soles if you land late.

Parque del Amor
sight · 60 min · free
Parque del Amor, Malecon Cisneros, Miraflores
A 20-minute walk south-west from the pyramid brings you to the cliff-top Malecon, the green strip running along the edge of the bluffs above the Costa Verde. The Parque del Amor, with its mosaic benches and the big kissing-couple sculpture, is the landmark to aim for; walk north or south along the cliff path for as long as you like. From June to October the coast sits under the grey garua mist, so the Pacific may not be blue, but the walk still gives you the lie of the city before you leave it. Free.

Punto Azul

Calle San Martin 595, Miraflores
Ceviche is a lunch dish in Lima: the fish comes in overnight and the cevicherias close in the mid-afternoon, so this is the meal to spend the coast on. This branch on Calle San Martin is the one most visitors mean when they say Punto Azul: a bustling, affordable, no-frills room with generous ceviche mixto, tiradito and chaufa de mariscos. It does not take reservations and a queue forms around 13:00, so arriving at 12:45 is deliberate. Budget 60 to 80 soles each with a drink. Keep chilli and raw fish modest if your stomach is still on a long-haul clock.

Puente de los Suspiros
sight · 120 min · free
Puente de los Suspiros, Barranco
A 15-minute taxi south, about 15 soles, or a ride-hailing app. Barranco is the old bathing suburb of republican-era summer houses, now Lima's bohemian quarter, and this wooden footbridge is its centrepiece. Cross it, then walk down the Bajada de Banos, the old stepped lane to the sea, and back up past the Iglesia de la Ermita. Give the rest of the afternoon to the side streets and the murals around them rather than to any one sight. Free. The light over the ocean at dusk, around 18:00, is the reason to stay on this side of town for dinner.

Isolina Taberna Peruana
food · 105 min · PEN 90 · Avenida Prolongacion San Martin 101, Barranco
Avenida Prolongacion San Martin 101, Barranco
A modern take on the old Lima taberna: criollo home cooking in portions meant for sharing, such as aji de gallina, lomo saltado, causa and seco. Order one main per two people and a pitcher of chicha morada. Open from 12:00 until 22:00 Monday to Wednesday and until 23:00 Thursday to Saturday, but only until 19:00 on Sundays, so on a Sunday move it to lunch and eat ceviche tonight instead. It takes reservations on weekdays only; at weekends expect to wait. Around 90 soles each with a drink.

Miraflores, Lima
Base on the coast, not in the historic centre: Miraflores for convenience, Barranco for character, both about 50 to 70 minutes from the new Jorge Chavez airport terminal. Reckon on 250 to 450 soles a night for a mid-range double. Land the night before day 1 if you can; the Lima airport run is slowest in the evening peak.

Metropolitano bus from Miraflores to the historic centre
travel · 40 min · PEN 25
The Metropolitano rapid bus runs in its own lane from the Miraflores stations (Benavides, Ricardo Palma, Angamos) to Jiron de la Union or Colmena in the centre, about 3.20 soles a ride on a rechargeable card that costs 5 soles at any station. A taxi or ride-hailing car is 25 to 35 soles and slower in the morning traffic. This stop budgets the taxi; the bus is the cost lever.

Jiron Ancash 471, Cercado de Lima
The yellow Franciscan church and monastery two blocks from the Plaza Mayor. The guided visit, which is the only way in, takes you through the cloisters with their Sevillian tiles, the library, and down into the ossuaries beneath the church, where the bones of roughly 25,000 people buried between the seventeenth and early nineteenth centuries are laid out in patterns. Admission is posted at 10 soles for adults; tours run in Spanish and English and take about 45 minutes. No photos inside. Opening hours vary between sources, but mid-morning on any day is inside all of them.

Three blocks west. The square Pizarro laid out in 1535, with the cathedral, the archbishop's palace and its carved wooden balconies, and the Palacio de Gobierno on the north side. The changing of the guard in front of the palace starts at about 12:00 with a military band and is free to watch from the railings. The centre is busy and safe in daylight; keep phones in a front pocket and take a car rather than walking out of it.

Avenida San Martin 1090, Pueblo Libre
A 25-minute taxi west to Pueblo Libre, about 20 soles. The Queirolo family have run a bar on this corner since 1880, and it still pours their own pisco. Keep lunch light, because there is an early dinner at the museum tonight: butifarra sandwiches, a causa or a ceviche to share, and a chilcano. Open from 08:00 daily, until 17:00 on Sundays. About 50 to 60 soles each. The museum is a 10-minute walk away down Avenida Bolivar.

Avenida Simon Bolivar 1515, Pueblo Libre
The strongest single collection of ancient Peruvian art you can see in one visit, and the reason to understand the coast before you go up into the Andes. Moche portrait vessels, Chimu and Nazca textiles, the gold and silver room, and the visible storage rooms with tens of thousands of catalogued ceramics on open shelves. The erotic pottery gallery is included. Open every day of the year from 09:00 to 19:00. The ticket is 50 soles at the door or 45 soles online, which also skips the queue.

Dinner on the museum's garden terraces under the bougainvillea, which is why it is early: the setting is the point, and it is gone once it is dark. Criollo classics with an author's touch, such as tacu tacu with lomo saltado or arroz con mariscos, and a proper pisco sour. It opens at 12:00 Monday to Saturday and at 09:00 on Sundays, and closes at 22:00. Reviews are mixed on service at busy times, so book a terrace table by WhatsApp or through the museum. About 100 to 120 soles each. A taxi back to Miraflores takes 25 to 35 minutes.

How we check

Anything with a kitchen or a ticket gate is verified individually: the official site where one exists, plus recent traveler reviews. Public squares, parks and viewpoints get an existence check. A venue we can’t confirm is flagged below rather than quietly kept, and the whole itinerary is re-checked on a cadence — past 12 months without one, the checked claim is dropped and the date above stops being a promise.
