Three days entirely on the Zimbabwean bank of the Zambezi, where about two thirds of the falls face stands and where the rainforest path holds sixteen numbered viewpoints along roughly two kilometres of gorge rim. Day 1 walks that path and ends on a hotel terrace looking at the bridge. Day 2 goes onto and underneath the bridge itself, then out on the river at sunset. Day 3 is a dawn game drive in Zambezi National Park before the flight. The one decision that changes everything is which month you come. The Zambezi peaks in April at roughly 500 million litres a minute, which is thunderous and also means the spray blots out the view from Danger Point and soaks you and your camera; it drops through the second half of the year until October and November, when the far eastern end of the falls can dry to bare rock. This plan is written for April through August, when the water is still heavy but the eastern viewpoints are readable, the weather is dry, and the game viewing north of town is improving. If your dates fall on a full moon, the park opens for three nights around it for the lunar rainbow, which needs high water and a lot of spray to show at all, so it is a March to June thing and it is a separate USD 116 ticket for an international adult, not an extension of the USD 58 day rate. Money is simple and rigid: Zimbabwe runs a dual system with the local ZiG, but park gates, operators and restaurants in Victoria Falls quote and take US dollars, card acceptance outside the big hotels is unreliable, and change is scarce, so bring more small clean notes than you think you need. Everything priced below is in US dollars and everything below is in Zimbabwe. Crossing the bridge into Zambia is a separate trip with its own visa and its own currency, and nothing on that bank is costed here: if you want Livingstone, or Devil's Pool on the lip of the far side, add a Zambian visa or the KAZA UniVisa, Zambian park entry, roughly USD 165 to the concessionaire who runs the island, and Zambian kwacha for anything you buy while you are over there. Devil's Pool also only exists when the river is low, roughly mid-August to mid-January, so in the months this plan is written for it is shut anyway. And the local rule that catches first-timers: do not walk anywhere after dark. Elephant, buffalo and hippo move through this town at night and every lodge will call you a taxi.

Victoria Falls International Airport to townbook ahead
travel · 30 min · $20book ahead
The airport is about 20 km south of town and the road takes 20 to 25 minutes. A seat on a scheduled shuttle runs about USD 20 per person; a private car is USD 25 to 40 for the vehicle, so it is the cheaper option for two. Book it with your lodge before you fly rather than negotiating in the arrivals car park. Decide your visa before you land. Most eligible nationalities pay USD 30 for a single-entry Zimbabwean visa on arrival; British, Irish, US and Canadian passports pay USD 55. The KAZA UniVisa is USD 50, is sold at this airport and at the bridge, and covers Zimbabwe and Zambia together for 30 days, so it is the cheaper choice for anyone who might cross and the more expensive one for anyone who will not. Zimbabwe also sells an e-visa online, which puts you in a faster lane; buying on arrival adds 20 to 40 minutes. This whole day assumes you are on the ground by about midday. If you land after 14:00, move the rainforest walk to tomorrow morning and pull the bridge tour to its 14:30 departure, because the park gates shut at 18:00 and there is no evening entry except on the three full-moon nights.

Check in, Victoria Falls town centre

Victoria Falls town centre
Stay in the town centre rather than out on the river road. Everything on day 1 and day 2 is then a five to fifteen minute walk in daylight, which matters because the alternative is a taxi for every movement. Ask at check-in which streets your lodge considers safe on foot and until what hour; the answer is about wildlife, not crime, and it changes with the season.

The Three Monkeys
food · 60 min · $18
The Three Monkeys, Adam Stander Road
Wood-fired pizza, burgers and grills in and around a restored 1935 railway carriage, five minutes from the town centre. It is the busiest casual kitchen in town and does not take bookings for lunch, so arriving at one o'clock rather than half past gets you a deck table. Cash in US dollars is the safe assumption. Expect about USD 15 to 20 a head without drinks.
NOTE · field note · open and trading at the corner of Livingstone Way and Adam Stander Drive, still described as the town's leading casual kitchen. — checked 2026-08-16

Victoria Falls National Park
sight · 165 min · $58
Victoria Falls National Park rainforest, Livingstone Way
The entrance is a fifteen minute walk from the town centre and the gates run 06:00 to 18:00. The fee for an international adult at the main gate went to USD 58 on 13 February 2026 when VAT was applied to park entry; a great many guides, blogs and booking sites still print USD 50, which is what it was until that date, so carry the higher figure in cash and do not be surprised. SADC residents pay USD 30 and Zimbabweans USD 7, so if that is you, budget from the local column. The path runs about two kilometres past sixteen numbered viewpoints, from Devil's Cataract and the Livingstone statue at the western end to Danger Point and the bridge lookout at the eastern. Allow two and a half to three hours and walk it in that order: Devil's Cataract flows all year, while Danger Point and the eastern viewpoints are the ones that go either behind a wall of spray in April and May or quiet and rocky in October and November. In high water you will be soaked through in ten minutes. Raincoats hire at the gate for a few dollars, they are not very good, and a dry bag for your phone is worth more than the coat. Card machines at the gate exist and fail often.

The Victoria Falls Hotel, Mallet Drive
The 1904 hotel's terrace looks down the lawn at the gorge, the bridge and the column of spray, which is the view every photograph of this place is taken from. High tea is served 15:00 to 17:00 if you would rather do the terrace before the falls and the falls after; arriving at quarter past five instead puts you there for a drink as the light goes. Smart casual, and it is a hotel rather than a restaurant listing, so a table is worth calling for at busy times. Budget about USD 15 for drinks, more if you take the full tea.
NOTE · field note · open and trading, and the high tea window is re-confirmed at 15:00 to 17:00 daily exactly as the stop says - so the 17:15 arrival is deliberately after it, which is what the stop intends. — checked 2026-08-16

The Boma, beside Victoria Falls Safari Lodge
A four-course open-air buffet next to Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, with a barbecue over the fire, a drumming session everybody is handed a drum for, and mopane worms offered to anyone who wants the certificate. Quoted rates vary a lot by who sells it: roughly USD 45 to USD 75 a head, often with hotel transfers folded in, so ask what the number includes before you agree to it. Book it, it fills. It is 3 km out of town, transfers run from about 19:00 for a 19:30 seating, and this is not a walk you make in either direction after dark.

Victoria Falls Bridge
Two hours with a guide on the 1905 bridge and, harnessed, on the catwalks slung underneath it, which are closed to everyone else. USD 64 per person, departures 10:00 and 14:30, check in half an hour early, minimum age 10, minimum two people. Those are the operator's own published figures; resellers advertise the same tour at USD 55 plus a USD 15 pick-up, and some list a 14:00 afternoon slot instead, so confirm the price and the hour with whoever takes your money. Here is the thing to understand before you go: the bridge deck is no-man's-land between the two border posts. You leave through Zimbabwean immigration to reach it, and you must have your actual passport, not a copy. If you are only walking to the bridge and coming back, ask for a bridge pass, which is issued free and does not use up a visa entry. What you must not do casually is keep walking to the Zambian post at the far end. That is an international entry: a Zambian visa or the KAZA UniVisa at USD 50, and a country whose shops price in kwacha rather than the US dollars this trip runs on. If you do want both banks, buy the KAZA UniVisa when you first land in Zimbabwe rather than a single-entry Zimbabwean visa, because it covers both countries for 30 days and is sold at Victoria Falls airport and at the bridge itself. The walk from the town centre to the bridge is about 20 minutes.
NOTE · field note · the tour itself re-confirms - two hours, the original construction catwalks under the deck, minimum two people, non-seasonal, running all year. — checked 2026-08-16

The Lookout Cafe, Batoka Gorge
Built onto the lip of the Batoka Gorge about 120 m above the rapids, downstream of the bridge. It is the best lunch view in Zimbabwe and it is also where the gorge swing and the zip line launch from, so you can watch people drop off the edge between courses, or book one yourself on the spot in the dry months. Mains run about USD 15 to 25. Booking is worth it for a rail-side table. Transfers are usually free from town; the walk in is on a gravel road and not one to do at dusk.

Elephant's Walk Shopping and Artist Village, Adam Stander Road
A free one-room museum in the courtyard of the artists' village, holding Shona, Ndebele, Tonga and Lozi material, including Tonga ndoro shell currency that was traded here from the 1600s. Small, densely labelled, and worth thirty to forty-five minutes rather than ten. Set your expectations from what it is rather than from a score, because it does not have one: the centre is listed on Tripadvisor and in Lonely Planet but carries no reviews at all on any platform, so nobody has rated it. Generally open daily 08:30 to 17:00, though a one-room centre in a small town keeps small-town hours and can be shut without notice. Give the rest of the ninety minutes to the village around it, which is where the resident artists work and where the prices are fixed rather than haggled, unlike the street stalls on Livingstone Way.
NOTE · field note · the centre is still referenced by current Victoria Falls operators, including as an evening dinner venue bundled with Zambezi game drives, so it is operating. — checked 2026-08-16

Zambezi Drive jetties, upstream of the falls
Two hours on the flat water above the falls, which is the only stretch of this river you can sit on. Hippo and elephant on the banks, and the sun going down straight ahead of the bow. Boats leave from jetties on Zambezi Drive a few kilometres upstream. Half a dozen operators run the identical outing, which is why no single score attaches to it: the reviews are scattered across one product listing per boat rather than pooled under one venue, so pick on the boat and the deck rather than on a rating, and check whether a transfer from town is included. Prices sit somewhere between USD 50 and USD 95 depending on the boat and the deck, drinks and snacks are usually included, and there is a Parks river usage fee of USD 10 per person on top which some quotes bury and some do not. Book the day before at the latest. The mosquitoes come out at dusk on the river, so take repellent even in the dry months.
NOTE · field note · PRICE: the band has moved up and widened - current sources give roughly USD 50 to 150, with basic cruises from USD 65, standard around USD 70 and luxury decks USD 90 to 150, against the stop's USD 50 to 95. — checked 2026-08-16

Ilala Lodge Hotel, Livingstone Way
Ilala Lodge's restaurant, open-air under two cassia trees with the spray column visible over the lawn, and the most consistently well-reviewed proper dinner in town. One thing to know when you look it up: this is the restaurant that traded as The Palm Restaurant until January 2022, and review sites still carry both names, sometimes on the same listing with different rankings attached. They are one kitchen. Book a table, especially for the outside seats. Around USD 30 to 40 a head for two courses without wine.

How we check

Anything with a kitchen or a ticket gate is verified individually: the official site where one exists, plus recent traveler reviews. Public squares, parks and viewpoints get an existence check. A venue we can’t confirm is flagged below rather than quietly kept, and the whole itinerary is re-checked on a cadence — past 12 months without one, the checked claim is dropped and the date above stops being a promise.
